2007 pontiac torrent gas cap

I have not done anything regarding the smell of gas because I do not have the money to fix it or have anybody look at the problem. Today I decided to go have an oil change and they immediately pulled my car out of the bay. They told me I need to stop driving my car because there is a severe fuel leak and my car could explode. Thankfully there is a mechanic right next-door and I had them look and there is a very bad fuel leak. Tomorrow I am scheduled to have them drop the tank so that they can find out what is leaking.

I have been researching the internet for issues like this and I came across the recall from GM for a fuel pumps for a Pontiac Torrent the recall campaign number is 12V However, this recall states that my car doesn't qualify.

This does not make sense to me I have read so many things on this site that show many other vehicles like mine have had this issue. For the past six months or so the smell of the fuel has been getting worse and worse.

Every time I drive my car I have thoughts and visions of it blowing up. It scares me when I have to have my granddaughters with me I fear for them. I have also been having problems starting my car lately and with my research it seems like it could be from a leaking fuel pump. I feel that my car should be part of the recall and should be repaired and or replaced free of charge. I can't afford to fix a defaulted fuel pump that the manufacturer has known about but has not notified all owners of a Pontiac Torrent.

My life and the lives of my granddaughters should be safe in my car. Upon putting the car on a lift, discovered gasoline leaking from the top of the gas tank. Researched and found recalls on this models in certain southern states, but, not in Illinois. I have found many complaints about this but are not in the recall states. There is a problem with this vehicle and it should be recalled to avoid a dangerous fire or explosion. This vehicle could be registered in a recall state and it would be covered under the recall.

This doesn't make sense. Was a deal struck with General Motors? The contact owns a Pontiac Torrent. While the contact's husband was inspecting the vehicle, he detected a fuel odor and noticed fuel leaking under the vehicle.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that a new fuel pump module was needed. The contact called morehart murphy regional auto center located at 31 parker ave, durango, co , and notified them of the failure.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was unknown. Fuel smell after driving. Gasoline leaking from the top of the fuel tank. Stabilitrax system light stays on even after the code was cleared by a certified GM mechanic. I have a check leak in a fitting above the gas tank that is leaking on the exhaust. Several mechanics have seen this leak and fixed it under a recall but I have been told by GM that my particular VIN is not covered under the recall even though it's the ed act same problem.

It leaks constantly. Recently noticed a smell of gasoline coming from the vehicle. Noticed it on the outside of the vehicle at first but now can smell it on the inside as well. It doesn't matter if the car is in motion or just sitting. Smell is coming from rear of car close to gas tank.

If you are consistently gassing up and smelling gas after, you can rule this one out. There is one slight exception though. If you are the type of person that likes to squeeze in the last half gallon by making the pump click 5 times, know that your Torrent was not meant to be fueled like that. If the fuel pressure regulator has gone bad, it can let too much fuel into the fuel rails. This causes your Torrent to have a gas smell coming from the exhaust pipes and a noticeable smell of gas.

Replacing the fuel pressure regulator is the cure for this problem. You may also notice black smoke coming from the tailpipe. It can be challenging to determine where the smell of gas is coming from in a vehicle.

Gas dries fast, which adds to the problem. One of the best ways to determine if you have a fuel leak is to observe the fuel economy. Has it gotten a lot worse? If one of the fuel lines has been damaged, you should be able to find the leak by doing an inspection. Is there gas on the garage floor?

You could have a fuel leak. Pay extra attention to your tank level and make sure you are not leaking fuel. The code technically stands for: System Gross Leak Evaporative Emission System The EVAP system captures all fuel vapor from the fuel tank and sends them to the engines intake in order to be ignited in the normal combustion process. Pontiac Torrent P OBDII Code Symptoms The service engine soon light is often the only sign that the P code has been triggered P code will typically not be accompanied by any noticeable symptoms other than the smell of gas and the service engine soon light.

You should particularly notice the smell of fuel around the fuel tank area or fuel filler tube. Here are the most common problems that will throw the code: Evap System Hose — The hose that carries the fuel vapor from the fuel tank to the intake manifold can begin to leak. This will cause the P code. Look for either a tear or hole in it.

This is one of the most common issues that causes the code Vapor Canister Purge Valve — One of the most common causes of the P code is the vapor canister purge valve. There are a few clips that you need to find and remove. Faulty Charcoal Canister — The charcoal canister is often the cause of P Fuel Tank Sending Unit — It is possible for the gasket that attaches the fuel sending unit to the gas tank to go bad.

This can reduce tank pressure and throw the code. Fuel Cap — A bad fuel cap can cause the code to be thrown for sure. If you are getting that message, plus a P, it may save you a ton of time and money to replace the fuel cap and see if it goes away.
